A Beacon of Hope in the Kibera Slums: Transforming Lives, One Child at a Time
In the heart of Kibera, one of the largest slums in Africa, children face challenges most of us can’t imagine: hunger, homelessness, and the absence of love and family. Yet, even in the darkest corners of this world, hope shines brightly.
My name is Maya Lewis, and I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Since before I can remember, I knew there was a calling on my life. At just 17, I went on a mission trip that forever changed me. In a small village in Nicaragua, I met one child whose life became a mirror of purpose for me. That moment was the spark, and what began with one child has grown into something only God could move.
God cares deeply for orphans and widows, and I’ve committed my life to fulfilling His promises to them. The Bible reminds us that we are called to care for them, and I believe it is our responsibility to be the hands and feet of Jesus in this world.
Now, I am here in Kibera, answering that call. Our vision is to change the trajectory of these children’s lives—to help them rise above poverty and pain and give them a future filled with hope. This isn’t just an orphanage; it’s a home where:
• Children are fed not only with nutritious meals but also with love and hope.
• Education is a tool to break the cycle of poverty and transform futures.
• Emotional and spiritual healing help restore dignity and a sense of belonging.
Our mission is about empowerment—raising a generation of leaders who will uplift their communities and inspire the world with their resilience and faith.
